Welcome to The Elizabeth H. Binda School
of Education (Binda School of Education) at The Robert B. Miller
College. The Board of Trustees and the
entire faculty and staff join me in
sharing our enthusiasm about the opening
of Miller College, and the impact that
this new endeavor will have on your
career. You have selected the Binda
School of Education as a career path,
because you know the influence a teacher
can have in the education and future of
our children.
The faculty and staff at Miller College
are committed to providing you with all
of the tools necessary to make your
educational experience successful. After
graduation, when you enter the teaching
ranks, you will be prepared to meet the
challenges of the classroom.
The Binda School of Education Handbook
is designed to assist you in the
planning and implementation of the
coursework necessary to be certified as
a teacher in the State of Michigan. Use
the handbook and the Miller College
catalog as a guide to chart your course
of study, courses that have been
completed, and those to be completed. Advisors, faculty, and staff of Miller
College are available to meet with you
and guide you through your program of
study.
Aquinas College, our mentoring
institution, confirms that Miller
College's recommendation for teacher
certification is appropriate for the
Michigan Department of Education to
honor. Miller College's recommendations
are based on successful academic and
field work performance. After
successful completion of the Teacher
Education requirements candidates earn
Teacher Certification and are eligible
to teach all subjects in grades K-5, for
teaching subject areas in grades 6 to
and including 8 in which the candidate
has completed a major or minor, and for
teaching all subjects in grades K-8 when
those subjects are taught in a
self-contained classroom in which a
majority of the instruction is provided
by one teacher. The certificate is
valid for six years.
You have a great career ahead of you!
Stop by my office when you are on campus
to receive a personal welcome to The
Robert B. Miller College.
Sincerely,
Gloria Robertson
