MILLER COLLEGE NOW OFFERS HUMAN SERVICES AND AGING SERVICES MGMT. FOR FALL 2010
Miller College will now offer two new bachelor degree concentrations for the fall 2010 semester, a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Human Services and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Aging Services Management.
The Miller College School of Business developed the Aging Services Management program with the advice and assistance from several area experts in the field. As our population continues to age, the demand for highly qualified individuals to help care for them will exponentially grow as well. Individuals graduating with this highly specialized degree can expect to be qualified for positions in senior care facilities as well as governmental agencies.
Required courses range in topics from “Hospice and End of Life Care”, “Elder Law and Senior Abuse” to “Budgeting and Financial Options”. Classes will be offered in a combination of face-to-face, online and hybrid formats, and at times convenient for working individuals.
The Miller College School of Arts and Sciences developed the Human Services program concentration with the assistance of Dr. Sheila Matthews from Kellogg Community College. An informal survey of current KCC Human Services students indicated 93% planned to continue their education beyond their Associate degree and 69% preferred a B.S. in human services versus social work. College Provost, Gloria Robertson explained, “Every semester Miller College experiences high enrollment growth. The opportunity for the expansion of new programs has emerged based on the needs of the educational community and the suggestion of many of the new concentrations has been generated from conversations with local professionals encouraging the College to expand opportunities locally.”
The College will welcome these new students to the fall semester to begin work in each of these exciting new concentrations. For more information on Miller College, please visit www.millercollege.edu or call Chad Danielson, Director of College Recruitment at (269)660-8021, ext. 2933.
